Hannover International Summer School (HISSEMA)

Summer School 2013

International students receive the chance to gain academic experience in Germany by attending English lectures in "International Management and Economics" and "German Economy and the European Union" while being able to collect course credits. The HISSEMA is also attended by German students who attain regular LUH-credits.


HISSEMA 2016 will take place from The program will presumably include:




Arrival of International students, Welcome Reception by German program students


Kick-Off HISSEMA 2016, including campus walk and barbecue


German Culture, Business and Language

Lectures in "International Management and Economics" and "German Economy and the European Union"




During the HISSEMA three lectures with 25/30 semester periods per week will be offered. Students passing each course will receive 5 European Credits (ECTS) per class.

International Management and Economics

The module "International Management and Economics" will presumably consist of the following parts:

  • International trade, competitiveness of companies and international business relations
  • Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Finance, incl. financial crisis

It is necessary to pass a final exam to achieve credit points.

The German Economy and the European Union

The module "German Economy and the European Union" will presumably consist of the following parts:

  • The German Labor Market
  • Germany and the European Union
  • The European Union, its development and institutions
  • The Welfare State

It is necessary to pass a final exam to achieve credit points.

German Culture, Business and Language

The course will provide basic German language skills as well as insights in German culture and history. Excursions to leading German companies and institutions give insights into German business culture. Students are required to make presentations, to prepare case studies, and to submit homework referring to aspects of the cultural, economic political, and educational systems of Germany.


During the course "German Culture Business and Language" the International-students will visit the German capital Berlin and several German Companies.

Other Excursions

The Hannover students will prepare an activity programme for the International-students. It usually includes an excursion to another German city such as Hamburg and other activities in the Hannover region.


International-students participating in the HISSEMA will stay in student dormitories.

Application if your home institution is NOT a ISEP or LUH-Partner University 


Study fee: € 1000; including tuition, public transport, study materials, use of the faculty libary, computer rooms, free Wi-Fi, social events, a welcome package and compulsory excursions. Additional fees for optional excursions.

Housing: € 500 includes accomodation in a single room with shared bathroom and kitchen and free Wi-Fi in a student dormitory close to the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Step 1: Filling in the online application

At first, you have to fill in our Online Application. (Please, choose GUEST as Mobility programme.) After completing your data, you will be shown a test site where you can check the submitted information, make corrections if necessary and then send electronically. After submitting your data, a PDF-document will open with your application form. Please print this document. If you do not have access to a printer at the moment, you can also save the document first and print it later. 

If you wish to change the data after the electronic transfer of your online application, please repeat the entire process. On the basis of date and time, we are able to retrace which is the recently received and presumably conclusive application that you have submitted. 

2. Collecting all necessary documents

Please supplement the printout of the online application with a passport photo and sign it.

Please note that we can only accept applications in which sufficient language (German and/or English) skills can be attested by the home university. 

Furthermore you have to attach a current Transcript of Records, showing the courses and/or modules you have studied so far at your home university. 

3. Sending your application via mail

Please make sure all documents will reach us via mail not later then April 30th 2016

After having received your written documents, having examined your application and being accepted by the HISSEMA, we will send you an acceptance letter along with the signed forms and additional important information.

No additional forms are required at this present time. Please do not send any registration forms to us or any other office at Leibniz Universität Hannover. The registration will be held during your first days in Hannover.
