Goal
The goal of our research focus "Health and Population" is to conduct excellent research at the interface between health and demographic developments such as migration, labor, education and digital transformation that is visible nationally and internationally.
Research Questions
Health and population influence each other reciprocally. On the one hand, health is influenced by many individual and structural factors. On the other hand, it is itself an important input for these factors and thus for the welfare of the demographically developing society as a whole. Relevant factors include demographic development and migration, technological progress and innovation, climate change, public financing, medical care structures, global networking, and social and political preferences. Changes in these factors will significantly determine the interplay between health and population and are therefore the focus of our research. We also evaluate questions of how demographic changes in fertility, mortality, morbidity and migration affect health and healthcare and are thus directly or indirectly significant for the labor market, education and digital transformation, and vice versa. Approaches to optimize financing and structures as well as shaping individual behavior in this interrelationship are also goals of our research. A scientifically valid identification of cause and effects is essential and central. In this way, our research focus also creates a thematically comprehensive and methodologically sound scientific contribution to support all decision-makers.
