Research Focus: Innovation and Learning

Economic actors are often exposed to complex decision-making situations in a changing environment. This can, on the one hand, be due to the fact that political decisions or other external events change initial framework conditions. On the other hand, new information and insights can arise during the economic action process. In this changing environment, the actors are subjected to a learning process and try to adapt their actions to the new conditions. This is closely linked to the emergence of innovations from the acceptance of positive learning processes. The new research focus is on questions on this topic. The subject of "Innovation and Learning" is to be explored on three different perspectives:

  • (1) Individual level,
  • (2) Organization level, and
  • (3) Market level.

Interfaces between the three approaches lie, for example, on the question of the sustainability of learning, which is important both on an individual as well as on an organizational level. This also applies to the research of network strategies in the learning context. All three levels link the question how individual behavior affects markets and organizations.
